At its core, the work, “Trafficked'“ challenges the traditional notion of a woman’s place, suggesting that the real danger lies not in stepping beyond the confines of the home, but in how society shapes women’s agency.
في جوهره، العمل "مُتاجر بها" يتحدى الفكرة التقليدية عن مكان المرأة، ويلمح إن الخطر الحقيقي ما هو بخروجها من حدود البيت، لكن في الطريقة اللي المجتمع يشكّل فيها إرادة المرأة
This series narrates Dana’s pursuit of autonomy from her community’s constraints, only to find herself suddenly subjected to another form of suffering and humiliation abroad - a society she had hoped would provide her the safety and recognition she sought as a young girl.
The series features two hand-painted, six-panel abayas: the first, inscribed with the word "Trafficked," is consumed in a symbolic fire ceremony. This act represents the arduous journey of reintegration back into her hometown, symbolically shedding the "trafficked" label as she returns home.
The presence of UV lights of an insect zapper surrounding the Trafficked abaya to project how light exposes knowledge and vulnerability of the exposed perpetrators. The UV light causes a disruption and eventually an ending to the cycle of abuse.
تحكي هذه السلسلة قصة سعي دانا للاستقلال بعيداً عن قيود مجتمعها، لكنها تجد نفسها فجاه تتعرض لنوع آخر من المعاناه و الاذلال في الخارج. مجتمع كانت تامل ان تجد فيه الأمان و التقدير اللازم كفتاه.
تتضمن هذي السلسلة من عبايتين تتكون مصممه كلاهما من ستة ألواح ومرسوم عليها يدويًا: الأولى تحمل كلمة "مُتاجر بها"، يتم ابادتها في طقس رمزي. هذا الفعل يرمز إلى الرحلة الشاقة للاندماج مرة أخرى في بلدتها، وازالت وصمة "المتاجر بها" في رحلت عودتها إلى الوطن.
From its ashes emerges the second abaya, bearing the phrase "Years of Stolen Youth." Gold tally marks adorn the garment, each representing a day of recovery. Dana revisits the place abroad where she was exploited, this time on her own terms, free.
