Equality incorporates the thobe into the abaya, the sole representation of male attire in this body of work, to explore themes of intimacy, divorce, and the redefinition of cultural and gender identities. Through its design, Equality challenges traditional perceptions, inviting viewers to reflect on the fluidity and complexity of these constructs.

The project consists of two garments, each utilizing the other’s halves. The first garment ‘Intimacy’ uses the half of the thobe, with its collar removed, paired with half an abaya. This piece features two splits on either side, allowing the halves to embrace, creating a dialogue between the two halves.

The second ‘Half Thobe Half Abaya’ combines half a thobe and half an abaya, joined by velcro in the middle to allow the two halves to detach, with the male collar intact.

المساواة تدمج الثوب في العباءة، وهي التمثيل الوحيد للزي الرجالي في هذا العمل، لاستكشاف مواضيع الحميمية، الطلاق، وإعادة تعريف الهويات الثقافية والجندرية. من خلال تصميمه، تتحدى المساواة التصورات التقليدية، داعية المشاهدين للتفكير في سيولة وتعقيد هذه التراكيب.

يتكون المشروع من قطعتين من الملابس، كل واحدة تستخدم نصف الأخرى. القطعة الأولى "الحميمية" تستخدم نصف الثوب، بعد إزالة ياقة الثوب، مع نصف عباءة. تحتوي هذه القطعة على فتحتين على الجانبين، مما يسمح للنصفين بالاحتضان، مما يخلق حواراً بين النصفين.

القطعة الثانية "نصف ثوب نصف عباءة" تجمع بين نصف ثوب ونصف عباءة، متصلين بالفيلكرو في المنتصف ليتيح للنصفين الانفصال، مع الحفاظ على ياقة الثوب.

The fusion of the thobe and abaya long seen as symbols of modesty and gendered identity, now confront the notion of "shame" that has historically been tied to these garments.

In its most powerful iteration, the Half Thobe Half Abaya goes into the dark depths of shame, emerging covered in handwritten, abusive words; words all too familiar, used to demean both men and women. The back of each gendered garment displays a word we wish we had heard from the opposite gender, spoken to us instead.

Each side bears the words of its assigned gender, words written by a soul tormented by the pressures of masculinity and the harsh language that accompanies it. These words and encounter, expose how patriarchy inflicts pain on everyone not just woman.

كل جانب يحمل كلمات منسوبة لجنسه، كلمات مكتوبة بروح معذبة من ضغط الرجولة واللغة القاسية اللي تصاحبها. هذي الكلمات والمواجهة تكشف كيف إن النظام الأبوي ما يؤذي النساء بس، بل يجرح الكل.
